Yale President Peter Salovey Comes to Denver

11 Dec 2017 | 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

On December 11th, President Peter Salovey PhD ’86 will be in Denver. Alumni and guests will have the opportunity to meet him and hear him address “Strategic Planning at Yale Today: University Priorities and Academic Investments.” The event will be held at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in the Schlessman Lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a spectacular view of the city and mountains. Then we will move to the Ricketson Auditorium for his presentation and Q&A. The event begins at 6:00 pm with a reception with heavy appetizers and open  bar, and attendees can talk to President Salovey as well as meet or catch up with fellow members of the Colorado Yale community.

Ticket price: $30  This can be paid through PayPal (first button below) or by check made out to “Colorado Yale Association” and sent to P.O. Box 911, Denver, Colorado, 80201. As with all CYA events, dues are not necessary to attend but are welcome.

The ticket price reflects the Colorado Yale Association’s portion of the cost. In order to keep the registration fee within reach for all alumni, you might add a donation to CYA to help defray the cost of this event…even an extra $5 helps. Donations can be made through PayPal (second button below) or by mail. To help with this event, you are asked to consider paying tax-deductible dues, with payment details on this website under “dues.”

There is plenty of free parking at the museums lots and parking garage at this central Denver location. If you have any questions, please contact CYA president, Stephanie Grilli: steph@artscribe.net. With catering deadlines looming, you are asked to purchase tickets sooner rather than later.

This is a special event, as befits the visit of a Yale president. Because attendance should be robust, this is one CYA event not to be missed. Contact school chums and make it an occasion to get together. To those beyond the Mile High City, it’s a great time of year to come to Denver. See you on the 11th!

Newcomers Party

5 Nov 2017 | 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM

As you are undoubtedly well aware, many people have been relocating to Colorado in the past few years, especially to locations in the Front Range. As expected, many are recent graduates, but all age groups are now calling Colorado home. Some have contacted CYA to learn more about possibilities and to make connections with fellow Yalies. While a newcomers party is a standard for many social groups, it seems a timely event to hold and a “soft” way to check out the Colorado Yale Association. Give our new Yalie Coloradans a special welcome and get insights about developments that are taking place.

Heather Day ’99 has graciously offered her home in Stapleton for our get-together on Sunday, November 5th, starting at 5:30 pm. Attendees are asked to bring a light bite and/or beverage.

Please RSVP to CYA president, Stephanie Grilli: steph@artscribe.net. As we approach the day, please let her know what you will bring, so that she can co-ordinate, and you will get the street address. If you know a recent arrival, tell them about the party and ask them to email Stephanie with their contact info, even if you don’t plan to attend.

If you are a Yale alum in Colorado, you are automatically a member of the Colorado Yale Association. Because CYA is self-supporting, dues are most welcome but not required to attend events. As our numbers grow, members can expect their alumni club to reflect changes.

Yale Professor Jonathan Feinstein: Creativity Journeys

5 Jun 2017 | 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Come explore journeys of creativity with Searle Professor of Economics and Management Jonathan Feinstein, one of Yale’s most popular teachers. How do creators find their way to exciting original ideas? Professor Feinstein will present an illustrated framework to help us think about Albert Einstein, Mark Rothko, Jef Raskin and others. He addresses creativity in all areas of human endeavor, making this event of interest to all Yale alumni and guests.

While it is common to focus on the moment of inspiration as the essence of creativity, he takes a more encompassing and organic approach, studying how creativity and innovation are generated through an unfolding process of development….He is the author of The Nature of Creative Development which describes the process of creative development with many examples drawn from a wide range of fields. His work extends from individual creativity to the study of the development of fields. In his view many creative links go unrecognized and unappreciated: In the winding path of a person’s creative development there are many influences that are not evident in that person’s ultimate creative work but were essential to its creation. — jonathan feinstein.com

The evening at the University Club, 1673 Sherman Street, Denver, gets underway with a reception at 6:00 pm with hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. After his presentation, Professor Feinstein will entertain questions. Dress: business casual.

Seating is limited. Tickets are $20, payable through PayPal button below or by mail to Colorado Yale Association, P.O. Box 911, Denver, CO, 80201. After June 1st, contact CYA President, Stephanie Grilli, before purchasing ticket, steph@artscribe.net.
