CYA Hike: Mount Bierstadt
15 SEPTEMBER 2019

CYA wraps up the summer hike series with the Mount Bierstadt Trail on September 15th. Just an hour and a half drive from Downtown Denver, this 7-mile-round-trip hike is generally considered among the most accessible 14ers in the state. The trailhead begins at Guanella Pass, and initially the hike takes you through willowed wetlands via a boardwalk to preserve the ecosystem, crossing a small lake and the Scott Gomer Creek. Then the trail starts to ascend, travelling through tundra until it becomes steeper and rockier. The final phase is along a ridge to the summit of Bierstadt with views of surrounding mountains, but you have options as to how much elevation you want to take on. If you’ve been waiting to join the fellow Yalies, here’s your chance!
This is a popular trail. Although it may be less crowded in mid-September, it’s recommended that you opt for carpooling.
