Yale Day of Service in Colorado

Yale Day of Service is the university’s annual celebration of service, with Yalies banding together each year to give back to their local communities. In all, alumni communities host close to 300 service projects each year. The estimate is at least 3,500 service initiatives have taken place in the program’s history, dating back to its inception in 2009. Colorado offers two of its core volunteer opportunities.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver helps kids succeed in school, develop good character and citizenship, and live healthy lives at 21 neighborhood clubs and summer camp in the mountains through low or no-cost opportunities to participate in fun and educationally enriching activities after school, during the school day, and all summer long. This event will take place at the JeffCo location, 1275 South Teller Street, Lakewood, from 9:45 am to 2:00 pm. At this Yale Day of Service opportunity, volunteers will help the organization run the State Education Day Event, which will include activity stations where volunteers will be helping run a main activity alongside a staff member. Register on the YAA website.

This year, Colorado Yalies once again have the opportunity to volunteer at Thorne Nature Experience in Boulder. Yalies will do landscaping and weeding under the supervision of staff members. Tools and work gloves are provided, but bring your favorite garden tool if you wish. Wear a hat and bring sunscreen and your water bottle. There is plenty of parking. If you wish to stay later and have a sack lunch, please bring that with you. Family & friends are welcome. Sombrero Marsh Environmental Education Center, 1466 North 63rd Street, Boulder.
