Feb Club Emeritus 2024

Feb Club Emeritus 2024

Feb Club started decades ago as a way for Yale College students to endure the gloomy days of February in New Haven with nightly parties. A group of students or organization would be handed down the solemn task of organizing 28 (29) parties around the Yale campus and spreading the word among the student population.   In 2008, two alumni at a class of ’87 lunch remembered the Yale College tradition. and they got the idea that this could be adapted as an alumni activity, and thus Feb Club Emeritus was born.

Feb Club Emeritus has only three rules: no speeches, no fundraising, it’s just a party.  Whether it’s two or three people in a mountain town or a large turnout in a Front Range city, we all gather together in a designated location for a strictly-social good time. It can be an opportunity to connect with that classmate you haven’t seen in ages or to meet a new best friend or someone to share an evening of stories. Bring your Mory’s cup , if you have one.

Crested Butte: Thursday, February 8th, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Public House, 202 Elk Avenue, hosted by Amy Savin

Aurora: Tuesday, February 13th, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, A Bit Twisted, 3095 South Peoria Street #B, hosted by Bo Reynolds

Yale-Harvard Game Watch 2022!

The annual tradition of watching the Yale/Harvard football game with our rivals is on again this year at Original Brooklyn’s in Denver, Saturday, November 19th. It’s an easy way to meet up friends or make new ones.

Doors open at 10:00 am, and we have the second floor to ourselves along with a space for the kiddies. Order off the menu. Pick a square on the game board that has a winner based on the score each quarter. Wear your Yale garb so that we can wrest the cup from Harvard, who last year won the newly initiated alumni challenge.

Yale Day of Service in Colorado

Yale Day of Service is the university’s annual celebration of service, with Yalies banding together each year to give back to their local communities. In all, alumni communities host close to 300 service projects each year. The estimate is at least 3,500 service initiatives have taken place in the program’s history, dating back to its inception in 2009. Colorado offers two of its core volunteer opportunities.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver helps kids succeed in school, develop good character and citizenship, and live healthy lives at 21 neighborhood clubs and summer camp in the mountains through low or no-cost opportunities to participate in fun and educationally enriching activities after school, during the school day, and all summer long. This event will take place at the JeffCo location, 1275 South Teller Street, Lakewood, from 9:45 am to 2:00 pm. At this Yale Day of Service opportunity, volunteers will help the organization run the State Education Day Event, which will include activity stations where volunteers will be helping run a main activity alongside a staff member. Register on the YAA website.

This year, Colorado Yalies once again have the opportunity to volunteer at Thorne Nature Experience in Boulder. Yalies will do landscaping and weeding under the supervision of staff members. Tools and work gloves are provided, but bring your favorite garden tool if you wish. Wear a hat and bring sunscreen and your water bottle. There is plenty of parking. If you wish to stay later and have a sack lunch, please bring that with you. Family & friends are welcome. Sombrero Marsh Environmental Education Center, 1466 North 63rd Street, Boulder. Life & Personal Growth: “Aging Wisely”

Colorado Yalies Dr. Ben Green ’73 and Scott Fisher ’72 met on the Old Campus as freshman roommates in the fall of 1968. A lifelong friendship has been enhanced by a collaboration called the Aging Wisely Project, an effort to learn what differentiates seniors who are aging well from those who are not. Their research suggests that there is important work to be done during this capstone portion of life.

Scott shared with CYA at the Careers, Life and Yale networking event summer of 2019. Now on Thursday, November 4th, 6:00 pm, the two Pierson College Yalies will be the guests for the Yale Alumni Association Board of Governors’  virtual programming in the “Life and Personal Growth” series. Ben and Scott will share their initial findings and invite questions, comments and personal stories that validate and critique their research.

Show your support for the Rocky Mountain region alumni in Yale Alumni events. Register and learn more about the regular Thursday offerings that features alumni HERE.

Yale-Harvard Game Watch 2021!

The Yale-Harvard Game Watch is back! This year Yale and Harvard alumni are reunited. On Saturday, November 20th, come watch the Bulldogs and the Crimson team play at Yale Bowl via streaming. The location is Original Brooklyn’s (not to be confused with the bar near the Pepsi Center, 2644 West Colfax Avenue, Denver, conveniently close to I-25. Kickoff is 10 a.m. (mountain time), which is when doors open. Drinks and food are off the menu, with food service beginning at 11:00.  We will have our own upstairs space, and a side room is allocated for the youngest Bulldog fans to play.

The Game is always well-attended, making it a great opportunity to visit friends and meet new people. It’s easy to stay for part of the game or hang out for all four quarters. No RSVP is necessary for this family-friendly event.

Attendees must adhere to the local and state public health orders at the time of the event. Alumni are asked to use their judgment in being in this bar/restaurant setting.

CYA Hike: White Ranch East Trailhead

On Sunday, October 3rd, join fellow Yalies for a four-mile hike starting at White Ranch Park east trailhead, 5611 Glencoe Valley Road, Golden, at 8:30 am. This area in the foothills was territory for the Paleo-Indians 12,000-7000 years ago, before it was home to numerous native peoples, including the Utes and Arapahoe. Approximately two centuries ago, white settler came looking for gold, and the first placer gold, which is culled from streams, was found in what is now known as Ralston Creek east of White Ranch. In 1865, it became a homestead that was eventually the property of Paul White, who owned a cattle ranch.

After this moderately strenuous hike, those interested can gather at the New Terrain Brewing Company, 16401 Table Mountain Parkway, Golden (estimated time: 11:30 am). Non-hikers welcome. Please RSVP to Ben Jacobs ’17: benjamindouglasjacobs@gmail.com
